Glorious June is here, although I wrote this piece in the middle of May under heavy clouds and rainfall, so not sure what’s going on up in those skies. The conspiracy theorists will point at the ‘chem-trails’ or ‘cloud-seeding’ that is manipulating the weather, and say that now it’s not just our plants that are living in a greenhouse. Others point at climate change and the proliferation of carbon dioxide that’s just warming up the planet, creating deserts in what used to be greener temperate zones. The older generation just say that it’s the way it’s always been - unpredictable, we just haven’t been around long enough to remember. Hence, the weather still remains the most topical subject known to mankind. Whatever you believe, protecting our environment is a big issue, so anyone who likes to conserve energy, utilise our natural resources, switch to organic methods, and save water, gets a big thumbs up from me and the team. So we are encouraging any new material from writers who want to promote a cleaner, healthier lifestyle and are happy to share their story. We welcome Anabela Macieira from Key Zen Architectura who gives us some advice on conserving energy around your home and garden. Anabela is a keen promoter of sustainable living and heads The Sustainable Living Group, an organisation of businesses that work together to encourage eco-friendly options for the community. June would have been the date for our inaugural garden show, known quite famously as The Event, but as you will hopefully be aware by now, we hit some stumbling blocks and had to postpone until a later date. The passion, enthusiasm, dedication and popularity is still there, and we have been invited to pop over to Chelsea Flower Show to discuss things further with our guest celebrities and sponsors, and hopefully firm up a new date as soon as possible. So, watch this space. I shall also be looking forward to seeing some of our favourite Mediterranean species on show at this high profile event, and we will be collating an article in our July edition that illustrates how designers are utilising our plants in their displays. So, I’ll be suggesting my own Gold, Silver and Bronze badges, and also bringing back some goodies to try out and memories to share with our team and readers. Well, as ever, put the kettle on, pop open a beer or release a cork, and enjoy this months edition as much as we have enjoyed making it. Happy Gardening
